Union Hill Animal Hospital

Meet the team!

Union Hill Animal Hospital is proud to serve the Canton GA area for everything pet-related.

Our team is committed to educating our clients on how to keep your pets healthy year-round, with a combination of Eastern and Western medicine to give your pet the best care and above all, remembers that all animals need to be treated with loving care in every check-up, procedure, or surgery. Our integrative approach includes traditional western medicine as well as acupuncture, spinal adjustments, stem cell therapy, and Chinese herbal medicine.

Once a year, you should bring your pet in for a check-up. This will include a full physical exam and may include bloodwork and a urinalysis if indicated. Dr. Castle or Dr. Smith will check the health of your pet from head to tail and discuss any current or potential problems with you.

Our Services

  • Well Pet Checkups

Pets age much faster than people and can be considered “seniors” at around 7 years of age. Just as our health care needs change as we age, your pet’s health care needs also change. As in humans, some health issues that affect older pets can begin with very subtle changes that may go unnoticed until the problem has become serious. Sometimes medication dosages need to be adjusted, or medication may need to be changed. Routine wellness blood work and other routine diagnostic testing are important for senior pets because these tests allow us to evaluate how your pet’s health is either responding to current management strategies or changing with age. Regular wellness visits are important for every stage of your pet’s life, especially when they are seniors. Even if your senior pet is already being treated for a medical condition, treatment recommendations can change as a condition progresses.

  • We do not believe that we can use a cookie-cutter approach to vaccinating your pet and try to minimize the number of vaccines your pet will receive throughout of their life while at the same time, protecting them against diseases they may be exposed to. We will look at your pet’s lifestyle and develop a vaccine schedule specifically for them. Vaccines are quite sensitive and must be handled very carefully. For example, they are highly susceptible to damage from fluctuating temperatures. For this reason, we encourage owners to stick with vaccines from their veterinarians. We know that the vaccines we order are handled appropriately by our distributor and after they arrive at the hospital. Other stores may not even be aware that their vaccines are damaged or may not work at all. Not all vaccines are created equal. Some brands are less likely to cause an adverse reaction than others and this does affect cost. We use brands and formulations that are developed in ways that greatly decrease possible side effects and reactions.

  • The goals of dental care are to eliminate current pain, prevent future loss of teeth, reduce discomfort from new infections, and decrease secondary risks of heart, liver and kidney infections due to severe dental disease. Dental care is one of the biggest advances in better lives for our pets. The costs of pet dental care are associated with the time these procedures involve, the use of anesthesia and advanced equipment and training. Because our patients are asleep, we can remove diseased, painful teeth right away if necessary. We have invested in advanced equipment and training that allow us to provide a high level of care while minimizing anesthesia time. While all these steps add to cost, they also add up to the best care and healthier pets!

  • Our K laser is a class4 laser and provides a drug-free option for enhanced patient care. Clinical studies and real-world use over several decades have proven that laser therapy alleviates pain and inflammation, reduces swelling, stimulates nerve regeneration, and cells involved in tissue repair.
